MS Access to Sql Server Database Migration

Migrating data from Microsoft Access to Sql Server should be a straight forward process. A basic conversion of data is simple enough with the tools that Microsoft provide. However there are many pitfalls and complications.


Data types are different in Sql Server. Autonumber columns are handled differently. Access forms interact with the local tables differently from linked tables. Performance problems can result from the way that Access forms interact with the linked Sql Server tables.


I have experience converting a large complex Access application to run on a Sql Server back end, while retaining the Access forms front end. This application required a lot of modification and optimisation to retain its funcationality and performance in the new environment.
